25-year-old Gawad has had an impressive season, first ranking as World No. 8, and going on to claim 5 PSA World Titles. In the 2016/2017 season, he became the first home player in 18 years to win the Al Ahram Open in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza, and three months later became the 2016 PSA Men’s World Champion. He then triumphed over the (former) World No. 1, Mohamed ElShorbagy at the Qatar Classic, and (former) World No. 1 Gregory Gaultier at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions. Gawad’s most recent title came just last week at the Houston Open.
