Results! Expected? Unexpected?
Please share your reactions to the results from this past weekend in Collegiate Field Hockey.
Syracuse (14-0), Wake Forest (12-2), Penn State (9-4) and Duke (9-4) made it thru the weekend without a loss. Syracuse embarrassed an 0-11 Georgetown team by winning 16-0 then came back on Sunday to beat American 3-1. I predict they will take over the #1 spot tomorrow (Tuesday) when the new rankings come out. What do you think? Keep in mind, #1 Maryland lost to #9 Duke 3-2 on Saturday.
#3 Wake Forest had wins over two Big Ten teams; #6 Michigan State (12-2) and Northwestern (6-9) while #13 Penn State beat #5 Iowa (11-3); 2-1 and #10 UVA (10-5); 1-0.
After losing their first games of the weekend, #1 Maryland (11-2), #4 UNC (10-3) and #5 Iowa bounced back to win on Sunday but not without leaving the rankings wide open for this week. Where do you think everyone will find themselves Tuesday morning?
Other notable wins came from #17 Drexel (11-3) who beat Old Dominion (6-7); 3-0 in a CAA match-up. This was the first win against ODU in program history for the Drexel Dragons. Keep an eye on Drexel in the second half of the season, I think they are going to surprise some good teams.
In Big Ten play, Indiana (7-6) beat Michigan (6-7); 2-1. Both teams need to pick up some wins in the next few weeks to remain a contender for Big Ten and NCAA play-offs.
